Artist Statement: My work is about conversation. I explore mixed media in my practice, connecting the importance of human experience to objects. Object’s relationships can have power to deconstruct or opportunity to build. The objects you see in, Reminder: A Bullet Lived in Our House, were once given the power to take my voice away. By transforming the objects that were my oppression into art, I have reclaimed my voice. I use the bullet as a tool to say my peace. I hope more conversations are had about domestic violence. Silence is the most harmful weapon used against the abused. Shown here: "Reminder: A Bullet Lived in Our House" - mixed media sculpture of cardboard house, a bullet, a paper note with typewriter type, and a miniature mirror sitting on top of a wood piece painted white |
